In Ketchican, there is a museum containing many totem poles carved by the native peoples as tributes to major events, such as the death of a chief or a meeting of great importance. These are just a few of the figures from the museum. |

Ketchikan was built right on the bay. Since there is about 20 foot variation in tide twice each day, much of the town is on raised piers. |

We visited a kennel where they breed sled dogs for endurance races. Amy got to hold a puppy that was only 9 days old. |

In Carcross, Yukon, there is this desert. Hard to believe that just a few miles away there are mountains covered with snow. Apparently this "sand" is really debris deposited by glaciers that had since receded. Because of the frequent wind in the area, hardly anything can take root and grow. |

In Juneau, we had two Coast Guard boats escort us into and out of the harbor. Each boat had a person manning the machine gun on the bow. We never did find out why they were there. Yes, that was both a bit unnerving and also comforting.
